Always open to new ideas, in 2020 we embarked on an innovative journey by creating the Chardonnay/Traminer, an atypical white blend by its nature, which combines only two distinct grape varieties, thus marking a significant moment in our winemaking history. This initiative stemmed from the desire to create a wine that reflected a unique personality, harmoniously blending the qualities of two different vines without compromising their essence.
Ideation and Philosophy: Beyond Tradition
The goal was clear: to shape a white wine with strong roots in the plains, limited to only two varieties to preserve its purity, with an alcohol content contained within 13% and devoid of special refinements such as wood aging. This approach aimed to keep the wine’s young and dynamic soul alive. Chardonnay was chosen as the cornerstone for its remarkable qualities, capable of shining even under the most challenging conditions, giving the wine a distinctive character.
The Selection of Chardonnay: The Virtues of a Versatile Vine
Among the various vines evaluated, Chardonnay stood out for its excellent characteristics. It is a vine that, with careful management of the harvest, despite the risks of spring frosts, allows obtaining grapes of excellent quality, characterized by good acidity and productivity. The grapes, grown in the fertile pre-hill area north of Zoppola-PN, express a wide spectrum of aromas, thus creating a complex and persistent bouquet that characterizes our wine.
The Ideal Partner: The Aromatic Elegance of Traminer
After accurate experimentation, the aromatic Traminer was identified as the perfect complement to Chardonnay. This choice was motivated by the aromatic richness and complex structure of Traminer, which enriches the blend with notes of profound elegance and intensity, perfectly balancing the freshness of Chardonnay. The final blend is composed of 80% Chardonnay and 20% Traminer, a proportion studied to best enhance the qualities of both vines.
Vinification and Aging: An Artisanal Process
The manual harvest and the “Silvoz” training system allowed producing about 80 quintals per hectare. The vinification was managed with care, following classical methods that emphasize the quality and integrity of the final product. The vinifications were carried out separately for each vine, and aging in steel ensured the preservation of the wines’ freshness and vivacity, culminating in a harmonious and expressive blend.
Characteristics and Pairings: A Universe of Flavors
The bouquet of the Chardonnay/Traminer opens with delicate floral notes, followed by hints of pear, apricot, and hazelnut. On the palate, the wine reveals itself to be silky and lively, offering a perfect balance between pleasantness and sapidity. Its solid and rich structure, combined with a flexibility that makes it suitable for different contexts, ensures significant persistence and a continuous and fascinating aftertaste. Ideal for aperitifs, this wine pairs beautifully with fish dishes, risottos, soups, vegetable creams, and white meats.
Conclusion: The Expression of a Vision
This wine represents not only the union of two grape varieties but also the realization of a winemaking vision. It is an invitation to explore new taste horizons, always keeping the bond with the territory alive and nurturing a constant passion for tasting.
